Akayla Sellers

Akayla Jonét Sellers is an Associate Attorney at Buty & Curliano LLP, where she focuses her practice on civil litigation and toxic tort defense.

Prior to joining the firm, Akayla gained litigation experience representing plaintiffs in wrongful death, toxic tort, and personal injury matters at both boutique and mid-sized law firms. Her experience on both sides of complex civil litigation provides valuable perspective in developing effective litigation strategies and advocating for clients.

Akayla earned her Bachelor of Science in Public Health, cum laude, from the College of Charleston before earning her Juris Doctor from the University of San Francisco School of Law. During law school, she completed the University’s Intensive Advocacy Program, where she successfully completed a bench trial. She was also selected as a Summer Trial Advocacy Fellow with the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association and was recognized by the Bar Association of San Francisco as a Justice & Diversity Gala honoree and a keynote speaker.

Before pursuing a legal career, Akayla worked as a political strategist on presidential and congressional campaigns, advising campaign strategy and public policy initiatives.

Outside of her practice, she enjoys community service, cooking, and karaoke. A lifelong musician, she plays the alto, tenor, and soprano saxophone, and credits years of musical training with instilling the discipline, focus, and resilience that she brings to her legal practice. She is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
